What is Kuk Sul Do?

Kuk Sul Do can be translated as “the way of Korea’s national techniques.” Kuk Sul is a comprehensive study of Korea’s rich martial art history, dating as far back as prehistoric times. Techniques include joint locking, pressure point control, kicking, hand strikes, traditional forms, Royal Court weaponry, and internal “Ki” development. Kuk Sul can be classified as a hard/soft style that emphasizes speed and fluidity. Students are taught to subdue opponents with minimal effort and maximum results.

Philosophically, Kuk Sul stresses humility, courtesy, discipline, honor, positive thinking, and healthy living. We believe good character is as important as good technique!

What are classes like?

Classes at the Chagrin Falls Kuk Sul Do Academy are taught in a relaxed, positive, traditional environment. Students are encouraged to learn at their own pace and comfort level. We offer separate classes for children, teens, and adults. This allows students to train with classmates similar in age in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.

All of our classes begin with a series of stretching and conditioning exercises designed to increase flexibility, tone muscles, and stabalize the body’s joints. Students are given time to practice kicks, hand strikes, self defense techniques, and traditional forms. Classes usually end with meditative breathing exercises, which are a great cool-down and stress reducer.

Who can benefit from Kuk Sul?

If you can walk, you can enjoy the benefits of Kuk Sul Do. In todya’s society martial arts are no longer viewed as solely a means of fighting. The medical and fitness industries strongly endorse traditional martial arts as a way to increase cardiovascular endurance, strengthen and tone muscles, and greatly reduce stress. All people regardless of age or current physical shape can enjoy our classes.

If you have the desire to increase the quality of your life, Kuk Sul can give you the tools to be successful, healthy, and happy.
